Breaking Generational Curses:
The Bible mentions “generational curses” in several places (Exodus 20:5; 34:7; Numbers 14:18; Deuteronomy 5:9).
It sounds unfair for God to punish children for the sins of their fathers. However, this is looking at it from an earthly perspective. God knows that sin is passed down from one generation to the next. When a father has a sinful lifestyle, his children are likely to have the same sinful lifestyle as well. That is why it is not unjust for God to punish sin to the third or fourth generation – because they are committing the same sins their ancestors did. They are being punished for their own sins, not the sins of their ancestors. The Bible specifically tells us that God does not hold children accountable for the sins of their parents (Deuteronomy 24:16).
The following scriptures illustrate biblical examples of renounced curses:
Daniel (Daniel 9:4-19), Nehemiah (Nehemiah 1:5-7), King Josiah (2 Kings 22:11,13,19-20), Jews (Nehemiah 9:1-37)
Ezra (Ezra 9:5-15; 10:1), Asa (1 Kings 15 :11-14).
More examples:
Matthew 23:31-35
Jeremiah 32:16-18
Deuteronomy 5:8

So, be safe and ask Jesus to cut any generational ties to you and anyone in your family who may have begun these curses. Ask Him to also cut any of these ties between you and your children and grand children.
four Curses in the Bible
CURSE THOSE THAT CURSE ISRAEL:
Genesis 12:3: “And I will bless them that bless thee and curse him that curseth thee; and in thee shall all nations of the earth be blessed.”
BIRTH OUT OF WEDLOCK:
This is a 10 generation curse of Deuteronomy 23:2. God commanded that a person of illegitimate birth must be kept out of the congregation of the Lord, and his ancestors for ten generations. See the mighty prayers of which the sins of the fathers were repented of in Nehemiah 9:2-3 and in Daniel 9:5-6. They both took this very serious.
IDOL WORSHIP: See Exodus 20:4-5 “..visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children even unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me”.
SOUL TIES:
God made marriage to be a covenant. It is coming together under one flesh. In the Old Testament, mere
sexual relations constituted a marriage. So intimacy with someone actually creates a covenant link — or “soul tie”. It would be wise to confess this to Jesus and ask that any of these out of marriage sexual relationships (”soul ties”) be severed, except from your husband or wife….
Freemasonry is also a generational curse. Freemasonry is also a religion other than Christianity. Masonry’s practices and doctrines are iniquities laced with idolatry, paganism, the occult, Kabala, fertility cults, Satanism, spiritualism, demonology, and put it into a blender and come up with the Masonic religion. It is not of God! It is a false religion; the Harlot of Babylon. Masons say they offer new candidates “the light”. The light they are actually giving is: Lucifer. The Christian Bible says that Satan walks to and fro on this earth masquerading as an “angel of light”, that many might be deceived
Outward signs that a curse may be in operation within your family:
Mental or emotional breakdown
Miscarriages or female problems
Breakdown of marriage and family alienation (where a family falls apart)
Financial deficiency, especially where income appears to be sufficient
Being accident prone
Suicides or unnatural deaths
Frustration at every turn
Repeated or chronic sickness that follows the generations
Lack of permanency (a wanderer, vagabondism)
HOW TO BREAK THE PATTERN OF DESTRUCTION OVER YOUR LIFE:
(Galatians 3:13-15),(Colossians 1:12-14),(1 John 3:8)
Confess your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Commit yourself to obedience.
Identify the sins and iniquities of your ancestors. Remember that you marry a generation. When you marry, any generational curses in the heritage or bloodline of your in-laws will be operational in your descendants also.
Confess known sins that you and your ancestors may have committed.
Forgive your ancestors, living or dead, for bringing these curses upon you.
With a humble heart, ask God to forgive the sins of your forefathers; ask Him to forgive and cleanse you for your participation in the sins of your generation.
Forgive anyone from whom you might be withholding forgiveness.
Renounce all contact with the occult and secret societies, and get rid of or destroy all objects that are connected with the curses.
Release yourself and declare the curses broken in the Name of Jesus.

Hello, I have been stuying a lot of what you have laid out here…one thing I noticed was the generational curse of tatoos. Could you explain that one to me please? A pastor once made a comment in a sermon talking about tatoos, but it was never very clear to me as to why that would be wrong, except that in the Old Testement I did finds something once about it, but it seemed like all of the “back then” rules, you know? It did not seem so clear cut as to the “wrongness” of it.
Thanks so much,
Carmen Kuncaitis
This is a good question. There are many Christians today who get tattoos. This would fall into the category of “debatable” as Christians who drink alcohol, eat pork, do yoga or get acupuncture. While there is no clear cut “this is wrong” you have to look at the root and the association of these things and also whether or not your conscience is clear when you do them (1 Corinthians 10).
You could do all of these things for years as a Christian and then one day the Lord says to you “I need you to stop drinking alcohol”. Is there anything wrong with alcohol? No, however when he called the priests to service he asked them to abstain from that. It is very clear that you can drink in the bible you are just not to get drunk (Eph 5:18). But even so, Nazarites were prohibited from drinking period. God has to speak to each person individually on the subject.
In the old testament it was strictly prohibited to get tattoos (Leviticus 19:28). Yes, this is old testament and we are covered under the blood and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. However, there are also scriptures that reference the piercing/slashing/cutting of the body as an act of worship to false dieties (1 Kings 18:28, Deut 14:1,).
There is actually no scripture in the new testament that says it is wrong to get a tattoo; however, as Christians we take the old and the new testament together and we ask ourselves the question “Is my conscience clear to get a tattoo?” Because anything that is not done in faith is sin – Romans 14:23. Also, tattoos are permanent so later if your heart gets convicted that it was wrong…what do you do?
This is by no means to condemn any Christian who has tattoos (I actually know a few who have them and still get them). They get what you would call a “Christian tattoo” but still it is their conscience that has to be clear before God. If you are considering doing this I would put this to MAJOR prayer before moving forward. Each person has to be accountable for their own actions before God.
Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit.
The other important thing to take into consideration are the health factors. You could contract Hepatitis C, HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis B, tetanus, syphilis & tuberculosis.
Regarding generational curses and tattoos, the question of who is actually giving you the tattoo is equally as important. Do you have a personal relationship with the person who is giving the tattoo? Are you aware that demons can pass through someone getting a tattoo? If the person operating the tattoo parlor is involved in any kind of evil and satanic practices they can actually pass demons on to the person receiving the tattoos. How? Through the blood. We go right back to the cutting/piercing/slashing of the body being a sacrifice to false gods. You don’t know what is being prayed over that salon and what chants or incantations are being done before the procedure is performed.
Then the person with the tattoos have children and the children see their parents tattoos and they believe this is appropriate so they get tattoos. Now we have created a generational curse.
There are people who have been possessed by demons through tattoos. And, this point alone should be enough for any Christian to stay away from this practice – Christian tattoo or otherwise.
Prayer Over Tattoos
Jesus, please forgive me for marking my skin. According to Leviticus 19:28 it is forbidden. Lay hands on each tattoo and speak to them. In the Name of Jesus I confess and repent getting you and having you. I break your power over me. I renounce all demonic power coming from you. You are rendered powerless over me. My skin is sanctified by the blood of Jesus, as is my entire body, mind, soul and spirit. I dedicate my entire body to God for His use according to Romans 12:1-2 which says: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove that which good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. In Jesus Name, Amen
Thank you so much for your explanation. I too have Christaian friends that have tatoos and one that her and her husband minister to many through their “way out looks” and Christian tatoos. I do believe God uses them mightily in their circle of influence.
God is teaching me and guiding me through my heading up our prayer team at church, and I stumbled across this web site (I actually don’t know how I found it, but then I lost it again – I put it under my fav.’s now, haha)
Thank you also Sasha for the prayer, I will copy that and keep it with me as I minister to people.
God bless you and your ministry!
Carmen
The Old and the New Testament is God’s words. He is the same yesterday, today and forever more. We are no longer under the Law, however, we would save ourselves from going again into bondage by adhereing to His words. I believe what the Bible says in Lev 19:28 still stands today. The devil uses the old ancestral spirits to deceive even the christians in the churches. God wants us to discern the spirits to see whether they are of God. The word of God declares that “My people perish for lack of knowledge” and that we are to study to show ourselves approved, rightly dividing the word of truth.” In all your getting get understanding. Amen!!
